Rewind back ten years and your average ‘caff’ served builders English tea and could sort you out with a sausage and egg bap to get you started for the morning. How the times have changed as Chester is host to some of the most unique cafes around and is anything short of places for an afternoon and a bite to eat.

Patisserie Valerie is Chester’s little secret for self indulgence and host to some of the most supreme cakes and pastries ever seen. The recently expanding branch bustled with eager customers heading towards the counter. The cakes were unsurpassed and glittered like little treats in the shop window.

Unable to fight the seduction I found myself ordering their famous Double Chocolate Delight Cake and a pot of fair trade mango tea. The light poured in onto their French tiled floor and flooded down the archways towards the back of the building. There I sat and gobbled down my delectable dessert with each bite as intense as to the seductive eye.

Like they say, with most things in life you pay for what you get but yet this was the best of both worlds. For only £5.50 this was both affordable and lip-smackingly good.

With an excellent range of choice and prompt service you only need to walk past to see people with everyone’s noses pressed up against the glass peering at their range of delicious treats.
