AFTER an assault on an officer in Chester City Centre yesterday, police are appealing for information from the public.
A 58-year-old man has been arrested in relation to the incident that took place at approximately 6pm on Princess Street, Chester.
It is believed the unnamed officer from the Neighbourhood Policing Unit was dealing with an abusive man when he was assaulted. Other members of the NPU then assisted the officer.
He was taken to, and has since been discharged from, the Countess of Chester Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries, including a number of cuts and bruises.
Detective Constable Ross Hamilton, from Cheshire Police CID said: “This incident took place in a busy area of Chester city centre close to the city′s main bus station.
“We know from CCTV footage that there were a large number of people in the local area at the time of the incident and I would like to appeal to them to come forward with any information that they have.
“I am specifically keen to speak to anyone who may have filmed the incident on their mobile phone, as the footage may contain evidential material.”
