CHESHIRE West and Chester Council has today announced its support for Small Business Saturday, taking place on Saturday, December 6.
The initiative encourages consumers to ‘shop local’ and support small businesses in their communities. Cheshire West and Chester Council’s involvement is offering free market stalls to new small businesses and free travel on Chester’s Park and Ride service from noon on the day of the event.
The free market stalls will be available at Chester, Winsford, Northwich and Ellesmere Port markets.
This comes as Councillor Lynda Jones highlighted the importance of small businesses. Cllr Jones said: “They are very important because they make up more than 98 per cent of our local economy.”
MP for Chester, Stephen Mosley said: “Chester’s small businesses are part of what makes our city so great. I want to see them strive and that’s why I’m backing Small Business Saturday.
“To help make this an even bigger success, I’m calling on customers to ‘shop small’.”
Council leader Mike Jones added: “As a council we are delighted to be supporting Small Business Saturday. We hope the initiatives we take as a council support local businesses, especially small independent traders and businesses.”
Wellington Road car park in Ellesmere Port will also be free for users from December 6 onwards to complement the other eight ‘free after 3’ car parks in the town.
